I went to Shea Moisture's Facebook page and read that the Curling Souffle should be applied to hair with NO other products. (NO LEAVE IN CONDITIONER)
I don't know how my hair will act with no leave in. I love leave-in's for added moisture. I decided I would try again with the Curling Souffle for a wash n go according to Shea Moisture's directions. I am a little peeved that the jar of the Souffle does not really tell you how to use it.
Thursday rolled around and I couldn't take the oily feeling any longer so after my 5 mile run, I rinsed my hair. I was so tired that I didn't want to go through the wash and go routine.
So I did this.
A Simple Pony
Then to add more manipulation to the mix, I washed AGAIN this morning after running 3 miles. I used the same Shea Moisture Shampoo (from above) so I could do the wash and go again.
Guess what?
I had a fun day with my girls and I am tired. I actually planned to put curlformers in my hair today. (No dice)
Tomorrow after my run, I will rinse the L'Oreal out and apply my gel for a wash and go for church (if I feel up to it). If not, it will be in a pony for church, too. I will revisit the Shea Moisture wash and go at another time. I will make sure to post pics this the next time around.
Be Blessed.
Ugh, I do not like Shea Moisture Curling Souffle. As you said there are no directions regarding not using a leave-in so I didn't know not to use a leave-in, but then tried without a leave-in. I had the same results, looked like a 1980s Jhericurl! Sticky, greasy residue on my hands, neck, clothing. Fortunately it's non-staining, I wash and go without diffusing, got to work one day to find out my shoulders (clothing) was blotchy with slime residue. I know as curlies we shouldn't touch our hair after applying product or throughout the day, but when one does it would be nice not to have a sticky residue on your hand. I have very thick hair so usually use a lot of product. Someone advised that perhaps I used too much, well I tried less - sticky sticky residue in hair, on hands and neck.
ReplyDeleteIf you try the product again, I'd be interested to know if you have improved results. I really want to like this product since its local and cheap, doesn't have bad ingredients, and smells wonderful. For now I'll try the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

Shirley, I think I will be giving it away. I can not deal with greasy hair. I was apprehensive about trying it again but reading you comment, my hair had similar issue. (my clothes did too)
DeleteHi Crystal,
ReplyDeleteI wish Wordpress notified when there are replies! I just happened to come across your article again today. I saw your product giveaway, good for you! I am also following the Curly Girl Method, healthy products in my hair and in my body. I'm also on a weight loss journey, so this is really helping my mind set. I'm juicing for breakfast and sometimes dinner if I get home after 8pm, plus elliptical 2-3 a week to start, core exercises, and weight training. It's been a slow start for the exercise, but I've got to stick with it this time - I want to still dance when I'm 80 years old! I'm impressed with your running, excellent!
I'm returning the Shea Moisture souffle tomorrow! Going back to Kinky Curly Curling Custard, I only tried the souffle as a cheaper option.
All the best,
Shirley
Shirley, thanks. you can do it. I havent ran since sunday but I plan to run tomorrow morning 5 miles. my 5 miles is tuesday and thursday. I plan to add sit ups and pushup to the mix. I am not returning the Shea Moisure. I am giving them away for the product giveaway.
